Pretoria is one of South Africa’s three capital cities, based in the province of Gauteng. 50km north of Johannesburg, Pretoria represents a more laidback lifestyle of the urban surroundings but still serves as an important economic centre. It is a charming, quiet city known as the Jacaranda City for all the purple blossom-bedecked trees lining its thoroughfares. While in the city, be sure to visit the Pretoria Botanical Gardens and the many museums and galleries. Outdoor activities include the Wonderboom and Groenkloof Nature Reserve, the Bird Sanctuary, and a steam train ride around Pretoria.

The popular Crocodile Centre features a breeding program for two endangered species - the dwarf and long-snout crocodile.
