The spirit of the different cultures
People from all around come and celebrate Namibia’s Windhoek Karneval! This two-week festival takes place at various venues all around Windhoek from late March to early April. The carnival initially had a more German style, though it has changed to be a mixture of German tradition and Namibian flair over the last few years. With Namibia’s rich diversity of people, the carnival plays a crucial role in contributing to the spirit of the different cultures. The origins of the Namibian Carnival lie in the town of Outjo. German philosopher Fritz Kaufmann organized the first carnival at the central hotel in Outjo in 1952.
