Known as the land-based whale capital, Hermanus is home to the world’s most Southern Right Whale species. Whale watching season is primarily in June through December, as the waters are warmer and the whales more active. Unlike other baleen whales (Humpback & Bryde’s), the Southern Right Whale has three distinct characteristics: V-shaped blow, callosities on their heads and the lack of a dorsal fin on their backs. New Harbour is the departure point for all whale trips. They provide the opportunity to experience the whales up-close. The journey can include sightings of dolphins, penguins and 3 different types of whales.
