Camp Kalahari offers guests the unique opportunity to spend the morning with a colony of meerkats. The meerkats react to the non-threatening human presence by going about their daily routines, including scavenging the veld for scorpions and other tasty creatures. The survival of these fun-loving desert animals is dependent on the efforts of a full-time ‘meerkat man’ who monitors their movements daily and helps visitors locate them. Guests are driven to the den area before the meerkats emerge from their burrows. Once they know it is safe to venture out, they scurry to the highest spots to scan for predators and food.
